SIDNEY - A new sign at the Friendship Playground in Keith Clark Park will be dedicated Sept. 26 as part of the park’s fall community workday.
The public is invited to gather at the sign Saturday at 9 a.m. for a brief dedication ceremony before volunteers begin work around the River Street park.
The colorful sign replaces one installed in 2005 that had deteriorated over the years. Deb Fleming of Sign Designs in Delhi fabricated the new sign.
Volunteers will spend the morning tending gardens, spreading mulch around trees and completing general maintenance as the park prepares for the fall season. The work session is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon, although organizers said volunteers are welcome to participate for as little as an hour.
Participants are encouraged to bring gardening gloves and equipment. String trimmers and loppers are particularly useful.
The event will be the third community workday held at the park. In the event of excessive rain, the workday will be moved to Sunday, Sept. 27.
Keith Clark Park includes the Friendship Playground, a two-mile walking trail, a large shelter pavilion and several ballfields. Work is underway to update the park’s restroom facilities. New nature-information signs are planned along the walking trail, and the roof of the park’s covered bridge is scheduled for replacement in the spring.
Security cameras were installed in several areas of the park this summer. A bluestone picnic table and bench set is also expected to be installed near the perennial gardens maintained by the Hill & Valley Garden Club.
