Sidney to hold annual Spring Cleanup May 5 - 9

Posted

The village of Sidney will hold its annual spring cleanup program, scheduled Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 9. Residents are encouraged to prepare acceptable materials for curbside pickup and take advantage of limited drop-off opportunities at the village garage.

Village crews will collect only brush, leaves, grass clippings, weed stalks, and hedge trimmings. Brush must be piled neatly at the curb, with branches no larger than four inches in diameter and aligned in the same direction, parallel to the street. Whole trees, stumps, and thorny items (unless contained in open, returnable containers) will not be accepted. Brush piles must not exceed six feet wide, four feet high, and ten feet long.

Yard debris such as leaves and grass clippings must be placed in open containers or clear plastic bags, with each bag weighing no more than 50 pounds. Litter, trash, and significant quantities of animal waste must be removed prior to collection. Each property is limited to one truckload of materials.

All items must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday, May 5.

In addition, the Village Garage at 28 Sherman Avenue will accept certain drop-off items from residents on Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Accepted items include:

• Computers, televisions, monitors, gaming devices, and other electronic equipment

• Clean metal items and non-Freon appliances

• Passenger vehicle and small truck tires (up to 16 inches in diameter, without rims), limited to eight tires per household

• Appliances containing Freon, such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers

Residents delivering Freon appliances must sign a liability acknowledgment if the Freon has already been removed. Certified reclaimers are required for proper Freon disposal.

The program is open only to Village of Sidney residents.
