Sidney Library to host artist Kang

The Sidney Memorial Public Library has released its scheduled events through Sept. 21. Call the library at 607-563-1200 to register for programs and activities, or with questions regarding any of these programs. Call 607-265-3330 for questions for registrations for events at the Masonville Library.

During September and October the Library will host an exhibit of the drawings and paintings of Sugwon Kang, who was born in Korea and is professor emeritus of political science at Hartwick College. This exhibit represents a significant span of time because Kang, an octogenarian, began drawing pictures early in his life. Kang will host a meet the artist event Sunday, Sept. 11. Tuesday, Sept. 6

5-6 p.m.: Open Tech Hour at Masonville Library. Call to register for a 30-minute appointment. .

Saturday, Sept. 10

1 p.m.: Second Saturday Movie, a special viewing of Jurassic World: Dominion, rated PG-13. Run time - 2 hours and 26 minutes. Bring your own snacks and drinks.

Sunday, Sept. 11

1:30-3 p.m.: Meet the Artist – Sugwon Kang - in the Smart Community Room. Mr. Kang will host an informal talk about art as an avocation and the pleasure one can derive from its pursuit. COVID protocol will be observed throughout the event.

Monday, Sept. 12

1-3 p.m.: Open Tech Hours for those struggling with their phone, laptop, or tablet. Registration required.

3-4:30 p.m.: Minecraft Club (ages 8-17) Participants will join the Library’s Private World and participants will help complete objectives/create. If the class is full, participants may play at the Osmo station or with our Robots Dash & Dot while waiting to play Minecraft.

Tuesday, Sept. 13

11:30 a.m.: Friends of the Libraries Book Group meets the second Tuesday each month at 11:30. The group will read and discuss “The Beekeeper of Aleppo.” New members welcome.

2:30-3:15 p.m.: Zoom Lego Club: Builders of all ages welcome; new Lego challenges every week. Builders can share their Lego masterpieces. Quick challenges as time permits. Zoom link: us06web.zoom.us/j/95009586932.

3:15-4:30 p.m.: In-person Lego Club is for builders of all ages each week - put your creativity to the test and build a masterpiece. Participants can free build or receive a building challenge from Miss Cassandra. Participants may be invited to display their masterpiece in the glass case for one week.

4:30 p.m.: Board of Trustees meeting. Community members are welcome to attend.

Wednesday, Sept. 14

3:30-5 p.m.: Teen Club for those in grades seven through 12, come to the library for (free) Teen Club; crafts, games, computer fun, and snacks are always served

6-7 p.m.: Tech Class: Intro to Word: Registration required. Participants will learn the basics of Word Docs and create a letter and if time permits, envelope labels.

Thursday, Sept. 15

3-4:30 p.m.: Crafts & Creations w/Miss Cassandra: make an Orbeez Stress Ball. This in-person program has been designed for school aged children - crafts, STEAM, and other creative activities. Different craft/activity weekly.

Friday, Sept. 16

3-4:30 p.m.: New - Tween Club for those in grades five through seven; crafts, games, computer fun, and more - a place for the Tweens to hang out and get creative.

Saturday, Sept. 17

10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Friends of the Libraries a la Carte Book Sale - first and third Saturdays in the library lobby.

11 a.m.: StoryTime with Raggedy Reader at the Masonville Library. Come hear stories and songs about cows and farms. Pre-registration not required.

12 to 1 p.m.:  Open Tech Hour at Masonville Library. Registration required for a 30-minute appointment. Call 607.265.3330 to register.

Monday, Sept. 19
