Sidney Library to Feature Nature Photography Exhibit, Summer Programs in August

SIDNEY — The Sidney Memorial Public Library will host a monthlong photography exhibit, family programs, book discussions and community activities throughout August.

The library will open “50 Favorites: Photography by Rick Bunting,” an exhibit of nature photography by Bainbridge resident Rick Bunting, with a public reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, in the Smart Community Room. Bunting will introduce the exhibit at 2:30 p.m.

The collection, created in collaboration with Dan Harrington, features close-up photographs of birds, wetlands and other wildlife. Bunting, a retired Bainbridge Central School teacher and lead singer of the Susquehanna String Band, is known for documenting the region’s natural environment through photography. The exhibit will remain on display throughout August during regular library hours.

The library also announced the hiring of Kim Skellie as a library assistant in the Youth Services Department.

Summer family programming continues with Dinosaur Wars at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, followed by a Stuffed Animal Sleepover and a screening of The Good Dinosaur at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13.

The library’s Jurassic movie series includes screenings of Jurassic World: Dominion at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, and Jurassic World: Rebirth at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12.

The library will conclude its Summer Reading Program with an end-of-season celebration from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.

The Friends of the Library will hold its à la carte book sales from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, Aug. 1 and Aug. 15, in the library lobby.

The library’s Book Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, to discuss Becoming Madam Secretary by Stephanie Dray. Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.

The Photography Club, led by Rod Sutton and Mark Picone, will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, in the Smart Community Room. The monthly gathering is open to photographers of all experience levels.

Mahjong players meet every Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Smart Community Room, with newcomers welcome.

Regular preschool and school-age children’s programs will continue throughout the summer, with the exception of Zoom Lego.

At the Masonville Branch Library, Family Bingo Night is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7. The event is open to the public.
