Sidney: From Bus Routes to Book Sales, Library Expands Its Reach

SIDNEY — The Sidney Memorial Public Library is adding a new stop to its list of community offerings — this one arriving by bus.

Library officials announced that the facility is now a designated stop along Route 3 of the Chenango County Public Transit, a weekday route linking Norwich, Guilford, Sidney, Bainbridge and Afton with both morning and afternoon service. Riders are encouraged to call ahead, ideally a day in advance, to arrange transportation.

The transit connection arrives as the library prepares for a series of spring programs aimed at drawing residents through its doors.

Among the largest is the annual Giant Book Sale, organized by the Friends of the Libraries, scheduled for April 23 from 4 to 7 p.m., April 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and April 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a bag sale beginning at noon on the final day.

Regular programming continues as well. The library’s book club will meet April 14 at 11:30 a.m. to discuss The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, with copies available at the circulation desk.

For photography enthusiasts, the Sidney Photography Club will gather April 20 at 6 p.m. in the library’s community room. Led by Rod Sutton and Mark Picone, the group welcomes participants of all skill levels for discussions on technique and practice.

At the Masonville Branch, a new children’s reading initiative will begin this month. The program, “Reading the Alphabet,” invites elementary-age students to explore one letter each week through guided reading sessions held Tuesday through Friday from 4 to 5 p.m.

A full schedule of programs for children and families is available through the library’s website: www.sidneylibrary.org
