Sidney: Free Car Seat Safety Check Sept. 23

Posted

SIDNEY — Delaware County Public Health will offer free car seat inspections and installation guidance Wednesday, Sept. 23, as part of Child Passenger Safety Week, Sept. 20-26.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Cullman Child Development Center, 90 West St., Sidney, to inspect car seats and provide instruction to parents and caregivers on proper installation and use.

Parents and caregivers should bring their children, the vehicle owner’s manual and the car seat manual, if available. Expectant parents also are welcome.

When used correctly, child safety seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers in passenger vehicles. Delaware County Public Health said studies show that 59% of car seats are not installed correctly.

The program is funded through the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
