SIDNEY - Sidney’s 31st annual Arbor Day celebration took place Friday, April 26 at Keith Clark Park. The Sidney Shade Tree Commission led a program talking about the importance of trees.

The Sidney elementary school band performed several selections, and elementary artists showed off posters they created in honor of Arbor Day. The theme for 2024 was “Trees are Terrific,” and the students created posters based on the theme.

Each year, the Shade Tree Commission also selects one person to plant a tree in their honor. Sidney Central School alumni Dennis Porter was named 2024 honoree and made comments at the ceremony.

It was also announced that Sidney has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the 28th year. The Shade Tree Commission works to fulfill the standards required of the village of Sidney to earn the designation.
