Sidney Arbor Day Celebration April 29

Posted

The public is invited to Sidney’s annual Arbor Day celebration Tuesday, April 29 at the pavilion in Keith Clark Park 10 a.m. A musical performance by the elementary school band will start off the event. A brief welcome by Shade Tree Commission chairperson Lorrie Roach will follow with an introduction of Sidney’s commission members and the scope of their mission to work toward the requirements of designating Sidney as a Tree City for the 30th year.

In addition to sponsoring the annual Arbor Day celebration, the commission provides guidance for the Sidney Department of Public Works to plant, maintain and remove trees from streets, parks, and other public spaces in the community.

Since 1994, Arbor trees have been planted in dedication to individuals and groups throughout Keith Clark Park and other areas of the Sidney village. Each Arbor Day tree is indicated by a plaque that provides information about the dedication. A highlight of the morning’s event will be the dedication of the Arbor Day tree to Mike Gavin for his many contributions to the Sidney community.

Also included in the morning’s events will be fifth grade students displaying their artwork depicting the Arbor Day theme. To close the 2025 Arbor Day celebration, the Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District has provided saplings to be distributed while the supply lasts.
