The Sidney Center Improvement Group will sponsor its first movie night - Abbott and Costello in Jack and the Beanstalk (from 1952) - under the stars Saturday, Aug. 26 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Sidney Center Park Playground. No admission charge. Bring comfortable lawn chairs, blankets or mats. Popcorn, snacks and a gift basket raffle.

The Sidney pool closes Aug. 26. The hours for the remainder of the season are Monday through Friday, open swim 2 to 5 p.m. (All ages 10 years and older can come alone.) Adult swim - 5 to 6 p.m. (no one under 18). 6 to 8 p.m. - family swim (18 & older needs to be present). Saturday open swim 2 to  5 p.m. (all ages 10 years and older can come alone). Adult swim 5 to 6 p.m. (no one under 18); family swim 6 to 8 pm (18 & older needs to be present). At “10 of” each hour anyone in the pool must exit so the lifeguards can get a break. 

Sidney Food Bank is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty Street.

Upcoming at Sidney Memorial Public Library the “In Stitches Quilting Group” meets Monday, Aug. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Smart Community Room. All level quilters are welcome to join.

Sidney Center Maywood Depot music for Sunday Aug. 27 will be Rylee Lum & Jason Cotton from 6 to 8 p.m. On Sept. 3 , Jim Dorn. Enjoy the music while eating your pie and ice cream. Donations accepted for musicians.

Rotary Club of Sidney will have a meeting Friday, Aug. 25 at noon at St. Luke’s Church, West Main Street. Program guests will be Sidney High School Wrestling Coach Tony Ferrara and Bella Phelps, a 7th grade wrestler who won the 2023 MAWA Eastern National championship.

Free Share the Bounty Meal Thursday, Aug. 31 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Parish Center, 15 Liberty Street. Meal will be hosted by Sidney United Methodist Church serving hamburgers and hot dogs, salads, corn on the cob, dessert and beverages.

Sauce and Cross (dinner with informal worship) Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Sidney United Methodist Church beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie Counties are having a food drive during August, collecting non-perishable food items leading up to National Food Bank Day, Sept. 1. Catholic Charities is located on the first floor of the Civic Center, 21 Liberty Street. Non-perishable food may be left along with monetary donations during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m. Closed for lunch 12:30 to 1:30; new hours will take effect on Sept. 11.

Mark your calendar for the annual Sidney Chamber of Commerce Cruise-in Saturday, Sept. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m., Main Street.

Unatego Cue and Curtain announces the annual Fall musical “Willy Wonka!” This musical based on the timeless story by Ronald Dahl will transport you into a magical world of chocolate making. In search of an heir to his chocolate factory Willy Wonka, played by David Clapper, states a contest. The show is a family friendly classic with lots of songs, dance and surprises. The show will be Nov. 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. Note: due to the building project at the Unatego High School, the show will be performed at the Sidney High School auditorium.

The Unadilla Public Library’s Summer Reading Program Story time Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. through Aug. 31. Storytime is open to all ages, but is geared for children newborn to 7 years. A craft project will be done after story time.

Rise Up Celebration Sept. 9 from 12 to 6 p.m. on the front lawn of the library, 193 Main Street, a free community event with music, singing, food drinks and kids’ activities. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Help celebrate God’s love through Jesus Christ and the spirit that Rises Up from fear and uncertainty to Hope and Assurance.
