Sheriff Recognizes Deputy for Valiant Service

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond awarded Deputy Sheriff Samantha Acuna with the Sheriff’s Superstar Award for meritorious service while in the performance of duty.

On April 8, Acuna was dispatched by Delaware County 911 to a “routine” welfare check for a 911 call with an “open line.” Upon arriving at the residence, Acuna conducted an initial scene assessment and determined that a possible victim was inside of the residence and in need of assistance. After gaining entry to the residence, Acuna found a male suffering from an apparent stroke, rendered first aid and immediately called for medical assistance.  Acuna’s quick, proactive action likely saved the man’s life, or at the very least, prevented him from suffering further medical complications.  Acuna’s professionalism and dedicated service brings great credit to law enforcement and office of sheriff.

Of the award DuMond said he was honored to present it to Acuna in recognition of her valiant efforts. The incident, he said, clearly illustrates that there is no such thing as a routine 911 call and that each day police officers selflessly and heroically make contributions to make communities brighter and safer for all.
