Free community meal Nov. 21

SIDNEY - Share the Bounty meals are going strong after 25 years. In September 1999, Share the Bounty served its first free community meal at the United Methodist Church in Sidney. It is now held in Sacred Heart Parish Center at 15 Liberty Street in Sidney. The dinner is usually held the last Thursday of the month from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Between 100 and 150 dinners are typically served. The meal not only feeds the hungry but those who are lonely and in need of fellowship. It has become an ecumenical ministry. Come celebrate with us.

Because of Thanksgiving this month the November meal will be served one week earlier on Thursday, Nov. 21. The Knights of Columbus will be serving meatloaf, green beans, carrots, bread and butter, pumpkin bread and dessert.

Since the beginning many groups and individuals from the local area have volunteered their time and energy to plan a menu, do the shopping, cooking, serving and cleanup after the dinner. In addition to Sacred Heart parishioners who volunteer each month to help support those preparing the meals, Boy Scout Troop 88 also serves monthly to help bus tables. Over the past year groups like The Masonville Federated Church, Masonville Neighbors, Melissa Thomas and Carey Cole, Knights of Columbus, Gene Schmidt and friends, Sidney Teachers Association, Butternut Valley Grange, Boy Scout Troop 88, Gateway Alliance  Church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Sidney United Methodist Church have served meals.
