Shane Webb Munn, 50, of Goshen, died Saturday May 31, 2025 at his home as the result of heroically entering his burning house to save his sons Ryan and Travis.
Shane was born Dec. 21, 1974 in Walton the oldest son of Arthur and Betsy Webb Munn. He was a 1994 graduate of Walton Central School. Following graduation Shane entered SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Oswego where he earned his degree in business administration. Shane was a member of Local 1249 in Syracuse where he worked as a journeyman/lineman. Shane was an incredibly hard worker and devoted father.
Shane was a talented lineman whose kindness and strength touched the lives of many. Shane worked tirelessly in New York and New Jersey, and his dedication shone particularly bright when he helped restore power to communities affected by hurricanes in Texas and Florida. His commitment to service was a reflection of his compassionate spirit — always there when it mattered most.
Shane was more than just a skilled tradesman; he was a loving single father to his two amazing sons. Life had its challenges, but Shane faced them with unwavering determination and a heart full of love. He advocated fiercely for his boys, who both have autism and significant communication needs, ensuring they received the support and care they needed. To Shane, his sons were his world, and he showed up for them every day, embodying the very definition of a devoted dad. He loved them dearly.
Shane valued Ryan and Travis’s teachers and aides, and expressed how thankful he was for the care, and kindness, and education they were providing to his boys. Our family and community will forever be touched by the lives of Shane, Travis and Ryan Munn, who left us too soon.
Surviving are his parents Arthur and Virginia Betsy Munn of Walton, brothers Andrew (Jody) Munn of Unadilla, Nathan (Kami) Munn of Homer, three nephews and a niece. Shane was preceded in death by his brother, Adam.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday June 14, at Walton Cemetery, the Rev. Larry Light officiating. There will be no calling hours.
