As part of their unit on “Our Community,” the Roxbury Central School (RCS) kindergarten class recently paid a visit to WIOX Community Radio.

RCS Kindergarten teacher Lorrayne Bolger said as part of the unit, they hoped to learn more about how people and places contribute to the Roxbury community.

About 15 Kindergarten students toured WIOX, learning how their local radio station serves the community by providing information and entertainment.

WIOX Production Manager Mike Teitelbaum and Sheleigah Grube, co-hosts of Pop Up on WIOX, took the students into the WIOX studio and showed them the equipment that helps program hosts create their shows.

Teitelbaum  said the kids seemed fascinated by all the buttons, computers, and other equipment.

Elizabeth Alvarez, and Carol Schwartz, from WIOX and teaching artist through the Open Eye Theatre in creative drama at Roxbury Central School, led the tour.

WIOX Community Radio can be heard at 91.3 FM and Margaretville Telephone Company Cable channel 20 in the Catskills, and everywhere at wioxradio.org on computers or smartphones.
