HOBART - As communities across the country commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary, the Hobart Historical Society will host a program highlighting the lives of 20 Revolutionary War veterans buried in cemeteries across the town of Stamford.
The presentation, “Twenty Revolutionary War Veterans Rest in Peace,” will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Hobart Historical Society, 57 Cornell Ave.
Presented by Stamford Library and Village of Stamford Historian Karen Cuccinello, the program will feature a slideshow of gravestones and historical documents tracing the lives of Revolutionary War veterans interred in cemeteries in Stamford, Hobart and South Kortright.
Cuccinello will discuss the research process behind the project, including where she located historical records, how she pieced together the veterans’ biographies and the efforts to identify and clean their gravestones in advance of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration.
The event is free and open to the public.
