Thomas Paine, known for his essays encouraging the American colonies to split with the mother country, Great Britain, will make a cameo appearance at “Middletown and the Revolution: Voices from the Frontier,” a living history program staged by the Historical Society of Middletown at The Open Eye Theater July 11 and 12.
The performance will feature monologues from eight local men and women describing their experiences during the Revolutionary War. Mr. Paine, the 18th century’s stand-out influencer, will read excerpts from his pamphlet “Common Sense,” a bestseller in 1776.
Period costumes, music and imagery will help transport audiences to this tumultuous time in American history.
