WALTON - Approximately 22 souped-up, 6 to 12 volt power wheels cars entered into the 10th annual power wheels derby at the Delaware County Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Decorated like miniature demolition derby vehicles, children ages 3 - 10 years participated in their plastic cars on the track in front of the grandstands.
The rules for the event were no modifications for extra power or strength, no sharp edges, all doors securely strapped, and helmets and seatbelts were required.
In previous years, each car would have an inflated balloon tied to the back of it and the last three competitors with unpopped balloons would earn first, second, and third place winner and be awarded a trophy, Fair Board Director Ray Baker said.
This year, to keep things simple and safe, all children were awarded a participation trophy.
