Penalty Stroke Lifts Walton in Windsor Tournament Consolation

WINDSOR - A well-placed penalty stroke in the second quarter proved the difference as Walton defeated Deposit/Hancock, 1-0, in the consolation round of the Windsor Tournament on Friday, Aug. 29.

Forward Chasidy Constable converted the stroke with 13:34 remaining in the second quarter, giving the Warriors the only goal they would need.

Walton goalkeeper Mackenzie Roach anchored the defense, recording eight saves in a contest that was evenly played on both sides. Deposit/Hancock outshot Walton 8-7 and held a 3-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Deposit/Hancock keeper Kadyn Appley stopped seven shots.

The win evened Walton’s record at 1-1 after falling in the tournament’s opening round on Thursday, Aug. 28, to Afton/Harpursville, 2-0. In that match, Afton/Harpursville scored once in the second quarter and again in the third to seal the victory.

Gracie Bagg (one goal, one assist) and Vanessa Card (one assist) led the scoring for Afton/Harpursville, while Roach made nine saves to keep Walton close. Afton/Harpursville finished with an 11-3 edge in shots and a 7-1 advantage in corners.
