Go to the Ogden Library, 42 Gardiner Place, Walton, for an exciting journey as the all-ages summer reading program, “Adventure Begins at Your Library!” is launched. There’s something thrilling in store for everyone from babies, teens, or adults. Dive into a world of books and activities designed to inspire and entertain. Grand prizes up for grabs include a backpack filled with everything you need for a hiking adventure for kids, and a tote packed with road-trip essentials for teens and adults.
Highlights of this year’s program include adventures to spark curiosity and creativity. Teens can embark on a culinary journey with international cooking classes, and ‘tweens can get their hands dirty in a six-week pottery class. Grade schoolers will love the drop-in craft sessions, and adults can explore new destinations from the comfort of their chairs with an arm-chair travel series. Plus, weeknight programs perfect for working families and Saturday performances featuring science, magic, and Brazilian dancing.

Drop-In Crafts: During the Library’s Open Hours, July 9-Aug. 9. Designed for kids in grades K-5 and their caregivers, there will be a new self-service craft each week at the library. Supplies will be provided. The library is a great place to stay cool and get creative. Stay cool and get crafty at the library.
Knit & Crochet Group: Tuesdays, 3 p.m. Community members - gather (on the main floor) for yarn crafts and conversation. Bring the project you are working on and enjoy friendly conversation as you knit and crochet.
International Cooking for Teens: Tuesdays July 2-Aug. 6, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The library is partnering with Cornell Cooperative Extension and Christ Church to offer a culinary adventure in nutrition for teens. Experiment with fresh ingredients, spices, techniques and flavors. Classes include a shared lunch. Space is limited. Sign-up is required - call the library at 607-865-5929. Learning Adventure Series for Families Wednesdays, July 10-31, 5:30 p.m. Bring your family and embark on a fun-filled learning adventure. The series is designed to fit into the busy schedules of working families. Enjoy engaging activities and make reading a part of your summer nights. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn and grow together.
• July 10: Delaware County Diggers: Unearth hidden treasures and bits of history with Jason Schwartz. Learn about metal detecting and weather permitting, search the library grounds. Kids will receive a “goodie” bag.
• July 17: Smokey Bear and Fire Safety. It’s Smokey’s 80th birthday. Snap a photo with the bear himself. Jason Seely of DEC will give fire safety tips and demonstrate how to build, enjoy, and extinguish a campfire.
• July 24: Map Orienteering Gale Neale from Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District will help us learn the basics of maps, compasses, rulers, and how to orient yourself without the use of electronics.
• July 31: Explore the Outdoors with the Delaware County Audubon Society. Spark your curiosity and love for wildlife with knowledgeable Audubon presenters.

The Library is partnering with Jeremiah Pottery Studio next door to the Presbyterian Church to offer a six-week course for Tweens. Let your imagination and creativity soar at clay hand building classes. Over the six-week course participants go from wedging to building and glazing to create beautiful pottery pieces. Spectacular Saturday Mornings: Performers for all ages. July 13-Aug. 3, 11 a.m. Join us for an exciting series of performances designed to delight audiences of all ages. From magicians and musicians to scientists and dancers, there’s something for everyone. Come and enjoy a fun-filled start to your weekend at the library.
• July 13: Amazing Adventures in Science. Steve “The Dirtmeister” Tomecek will use “dirt cheap” materials to recreate some of the greatest scientific discoveries in history.
• July 20: The Great & Powerful Dave. Uses magic, comedy, and audience participation to celebrate the adventure that comes from reading and visiting your library.
• July 27: Didgeridoo Down Under. An epic adventure to the Land Down Under. Hear the didgeridoo, and learn about the amazing creatures of the Outback.
• Aug. 3: Bloco From Da Block. An unforgettable, danceable, interactive carnival adventure immersed in the culture, language, costumes, music, and dance of Brazil.
Summer Reading Program Awards Party: Saturday, Aug. 10, 11 a.m. Kids are invited to celebrate their reading success at an awards party that will include lawn games, snacks, crafts and more.
NYS Defensive Drivers Course: Thursdays, Aug. 22 and 29, 5-8 p.m. Certified instructor Linda Karpovich will present a six-hour defensive driving course (lower level) over two days with three hours in each session. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate to submit to their insurance companies for a 10% savings off the basic liability and collision insurance portion of their car insurance for three years. The total cost to participate is $35. Space is limited to ten. Stop at the library with payment to secure your spot.
