There will be no story time May 3 as the library is opening late.

Remember the library hours have changed. They are now: Sunday and Monday – closed; Tuesday – 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday – 1 – 8 p.m.; Friday – 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturday – 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

May library events

Knit & Crochet Group meets Tuesdays at 3 p.m. on the main floor for yarn crafts and conversation. Bring the project you are working on and knit, crochet and enjoy friendly conversation.

Mahjong: on the main floor, Thursdays, 5:30-7:30 p.m. for everyone who loves to play or wants to learn. All skill levels are welcome.

Storytime: Fridays, 10:30 a.m. on the lower level. Songs, rhymes, stories, and crafts to entertain your littles.   

Chess/Game Club: Wednesdays, May 1 and 15, 3 – 4:30 p.m. Checkmate your boredom and level up your afternoons with our Game and Chess After School Club. Strategic battles and friendly competition; let’s explore the world of board games and sharpen our chess skills together. All ages are welcome every first and third Wednesday.

Amanda’s Dungeons and Dragons Club: Wednesdays, May 1, 8, 15 and 29, 5 – 7 p.m. Adventurers - Dungeon Master Amanda Mills will host a Dungeons and Dragons game day designed for teens age 13-18. Each one shot/session is its own world full of wonders. Help those in need and be a hero, or find your own path. Materials and pre-made characters included.

Silent Book Club: Thursday, May 2, 6:30-8 p.m. Join us for a tranquil literary escape at the new program, Silent Book Club on the first Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Immerse yourself in peaceful reading and companionship; complimentary snacks and drinks or bring a treat to share, on the lower level. Engage in light conversation about recent reads during the first 30 minutes, then relish an uninterrupted hour of quiet reading. Adults and teens age 16+, discover the joy of silent immersion in the world of books.

Wilderness and Human Role: Saturday, May 4, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Zane Lawyer, Catskill Forest Association’s Education Arborist, will talk on the evolving meaning of wilderness throughout American history and its significance for the future of the Catskills. Following the presentation, a wide-ranging open discussion of wilderness will be held with the audience to further clarify the role of humans in the environment. Participants are encouraged to tell their own stories, perspectives, and first-hand experiences with wilderness and how their own understanding has or hasn’t evolved over time.

How Money Works: Wednesday, May 8, 6-7:30 p.m. A webinar for anyone who wants to learn more about personal finance, whether just starting or looking to improve your skills, this program will provide you with the information you need to make sound financial decisions. Bead it! Jewelry Making: Saturday, May 11, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Unleash your creativity at an upcoming jewelry making program. Open to ages 12 to adult; limited spots available. Participants will have a chance to create stunning pieces of wearable art using a variety of beads in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Lego Club: Friday, May 17, 3 – 4 p.m. Free build and play. Creations are displayed on the first floor in the youth section. Books are available to spark ideas and building process.

Book Club: Wednesday, May 22, 7 – 8 p.m. This month we are reading “Solito” by Javier Zamora ©2023. Trip. My parents started using that word about a year ago: ”One day, you’ll take a trip to be with us. Like an adventure.” Javier’s adventure is a 3,000 mile journey from his small town in El Salvador, through Guatemala and Mexico, and across the U.S. border to reunite with his mother and father. Medicare 101: Tuesday, May 28, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Robin Williams will join us in person at the library to answer questions concerning Medicare. Bring your questions about “the donut-hole”, HMO vs PPO, EPIC, money savings programs and more. Robin is a local, licensed insurance agent and coverage educator.

Library Board of Trustees Meeting: Tuesday, May 28, 7-8 p.m. regularly scheduled meeting at the library. The public is encouraged to attend.
