NYSP make arrests in DelCo underage drinking initiative

Sidney, Walton, Franklin, Roxbury store clerks ticketed

Four arrests were made during an underage drinking initiative by New York State Police Troop C in Delaware County on Aug. 15.

During the initiative, 26 businesses were checked. Four of those were not in compliance:

• Carroll and Carver Wine & Spirits - Main St., Sidney.

• Breakey’s Liquor Store - Bridge St., Walton.

• Mirabito Quickway - Main St., Franklin.

• The Country Store - State Highway 30, Roxbury.

The clerk at each of the business that sold alcohol to the minor was issued an appearance ticket for the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Law violation of unlawful sale of alcohol to a minor.

Twenty-two businesses were in compliance: Sidney - Smiley’s Convenience Store, Mirabito Quickway, Maria’s Convenience Store; Walton - Liquor & Wine Emporium, Speedway, Sunoco Country Store; Delhi - Speedway, Sunoco County Store, Mirabito Quickway, Delhi Liquor Store; Stamford - Stewart’s Shops, Sunoco; Hobart - Mirabito; Grand Gorge - Sunoco; Margaretville - Sunoco, Margaretville Liquor Store, Speedway; Arkville - A&R Country Store; Fleischmanns - Fleischmanns Supermarket & Liquor, Sam’s Country Store.

It is unlawful to sell, deliver or give away alcoholic beverages to a person under the age of 21.

During the initiative, retail establishments are checked using a trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operative(s) who cannot lie about their age or give a fake date of birth (if asked). When asked for identification, they must show their real identification. All New York driver’s licenses are horizontal if the license holder is over the age of 21; if the license holder is under the age of 21, they are vertical.
