I want to take a moment to recognize and express heartfelt gratitude to The First Congregational Church of Walton and April Epps in particular for their incredible kindness and generosity in running a vital medical equipment lending service. This quiet yet invaluable service exemplifies the very best of what it means to live in a community that truly cares for one another.
Recently, I found myself needing medical equipment to assist an elderly woman who had broken her ankle. I contacted the church and was amazed by their quick response and willingness to help. April Epps, who manages the lending service, went above and beyond to meet me off hours — not once, but twice — to loan several pieces of equipment, including a traditional walker, a rolling walker with a seat and hand brakes, and even a scooter. Her patience and understanding as we tried out different options, and her willingness to accept the return of unused items, showed an extraordinary level of compassion.
This effort wasn’t just about lending medical equipment. It was about the church family stepping up to assist a member of the community who was trying to help someone in need. Their actions reflect the spirit of “neighbor helping neighbor,” addressing practical, non-religious needs with care.
Our community should know that this service exists and how willing both the church and its members are to lend a hand when someone is in need. The First Congregational Church of Walton’s medical equipment lending service is a lifeline for so many, and their example is a powerful reminder of the good that happens when we come together to help one another.
With deepest gratitude,
Lillian Browne
