ANDES — The Andes Academy of Art will host a two-part mountain dulcimer workshop later this month, inviting beginners and curious newcomers to explore the traditional Appalachian instrument in a hands-on setting.
The sessions will be held on Saturday, March 21, and Saturday, March 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the academy’s space at 506 Main Street in Andes.
The workshop will cover the fundamentals of playing the mountain dulcimer, including how to properly hold and tune the instrument and how to form essential chords commonly used in folk music. Participants will be able to take a dulcimer home between sessions to practice, returning the following week for guided instruction, group playing and informal jamming.
No prior musical experience is required. The workshop is open to adults and older youths with an interest in learning the instrument.
A suggested donation of $50 covers both sessions. Scholarships are available, and space is limited.
