Meredith Historical Society will sponsor a program titled, “When Horseless Carriages First Came to Delaware County” presented by Gabrielle Pierce at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 19 at the former Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church located at 10044 Elk Creek Road in East Meredith, now the home of the historical society.
Horseless carriages or early automobiles were first seen in this area circa 1904. This program will present stories of local experiences with early cars during that era, both good and bad, problems that arose when a horse-drawn vehicle and an early noisy car met on the road and the rules of the road that applied when these encounters occurred, early accidents, incidences of road rage, speed limits, the licensing of drivers, and the registration of vehicle.
The public is cordially invited. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. For more information call 607-746-8083.
