May is Better Speech and Hearing Month

The Cullman Developmental Center in Sidney will host a day of free pediatric health screenings, expanding access to early intervention services for families across the region, on Saturday, May 4.

This year’s program broadens its offerings with the addition of Dr. Carpenter, a dentist affiliated with Bassett Healthcare, and her dental hygienist, Anna Roche. Together, they will provide oral health assessments for children, joining a roster of specialists volunteering their expertise.

Returning to the event is the Bainbridge Lions Club, bringing its Welch Allyn vision screener for quick and effective eyesight checks. The screening day will also feature three speech and language pathologists, including two from Binghamton University, and a Bassett audiologist conducting hearing assessments.

The event is free and open to all children from the surrounding communities. Organizers hope to reach families who may otherwise lack access to early diagnostic services — a critical step in supporting healthy development.
