Fall weather is here and the first day Fall is Saturday, Sept. 23r. Sidney’s school pictures are this week Wednesday through Friday - make sure the school children dress nice for your pictures. JR-HS open house is Thursday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. Welcome parents interested in seeing what your children are doing in school and their activities for this school year and meet the teachers and administrators. Have a great week and enjoy the fall weather.

Here on the Farm the fellas have had the vet last week to check on the health of the cows and keep track of when calves are to be born for the next months and how many cows are bred and to be dried off from milking to get ready to calve. They also check the cows that need to be bred and any problems that they may have to be taken care of and what medicines that the fellas have to order for the months ahead. The fellas started to chop some corn that is ready and were stopped by the rain that came yesterday. The weather looks okay for the next few days and they will get back to chopping. Some of us Masonville folks attended the Delaware County Electric Cooperative meeting and enjoyed a very nice barbecued chicken dinner and a very informative meeting following. We need to thank our electric workers for all they do to keep our electricity working for us and the people in the offices that get the billings out to us and those people that are in charge and the directors that do meetings to keep us informed throughout the year. At the present time the price of milk is pretty low and it has been a great idea that farmers have signed up for the Dairy Margin Coverage Program with the Farm Service Agency. We thank the workers in these offices for the help doing this for our farmers and we all hope that the Legislators and Representatives for our areas will continue to help farms with the New Farm Bill that they propose for the next years. One of the highest cost to farmers is the feed bill and that hasn’t changed much and we thank all the representatives of the feed companies for trying to help farmers keep the prices as good as they can. Sales of packaged fluid milk products in the Northeast Marketing Area continue to decline. In 2020 there was an uptick in both whole and reduced (2%). It seems that during the Covid-19 pandemic purchases of milk chose the higher fat products instead of the lower fat 1%. With schools reopening, sales of flavored milk and reduced fat flavored products have grown during both 2021 and 2022, although not returning to Pre-covid levels. Keep purchasing all the dairy products that you can, maybe it will make a difference to the price that our farmers receive for their milk for all the work and hours that it takes to produce a good and nutritious product. Have a great and healthy week everyone.

We have condolences for the family and friends of Bill Walker, Colleen Scott’s brother who passed away peacefully last week; services will be at a later date.

We continue to keep in our thoughts the people that have gone through disasters in our country and others throughout this year.
