Clarice Phelps, Navy veteran and scientist who became the first black woman to help discover an element: “We all have something to learn and impact exactly where we are. Be in the moment and pay attention to what it is you need to learn in that space, and be mindful of the lessons you leave behind.”

Most of our college students have reported to the colleges of their choice and some are getting ready to leave this week; we wish them all good luck and good travels wherever they may be going. Pretty soon the schools will open around this area - be aware of buses on the roads transporting students and help the drivers be safe. Now that the Delaware County Fair is over we hope that everyone had a good time enjoying the activities there and congratulations to the participants that won in their categories and displays. We wish them well and hope they will be able to come back next year for more entertainment, rides, the midway, the food booths and much more, each year there is something different to enjoy.

Here on the Farm our cousin Tim Miner and his girlfriend Robin from the state of Texas enjoyed all the area has to offer and the Fair also and we wish them a safe and good weather as they continue their trip back to their Texas home. The weather has promised a few days without rain to get some more of the hay done, but there is some rain in the middle of the week so they and all our farmers may have some time to get something done, even if it is wrapped hay. We had some excitement this Saturday morning when we discovered that the corner of our farmhouse was starting on fire. I heard a loud bunch of pops when Harold and I went up to the shed to see the cats and the nice hay that the fellas had put in there. When I got his attention we discovered the corner of the house was on fire by the wires that were connected from the light post. We had lost power so I couldn’t call the 911 and the light company so I got in the car and went next door to our son Cliff’s home and he got the calls made. Our grandson Reed had just gone by with the manure spreader and I let him know what was going on and Austin was walking up also and when I came back up to the house Reed was up on the roof trying to get the fire out as the fire trucks from Trout Creek, Sidney Center and Masonville arrived. They got right busy getting on the roof to see how much of the fire had gotten far enough to damage inside the house - they started to tear some siding off and check how far it had gone.  We thank them all for helping to save the fire from getting into the house and containing it just to the corner where the wires were burning. They stayed until the electric company came to cut the power off to the house. Cliff had called some electric companies to see if they could help get the power restored to the house but had no luck so he got a gas-run generator from a friend and set us up for awhile. Sunday morning a young man came to the door - a worker for one of the electricians Cliff had called and said he could get the wires fixed and we could have power so he got to work and we had power that afternoon. Thanks to all the quick work of everyone we now are enjoying our electric and I was saying how we take our power for granted until we lose it and need to make do until we have it back. Now the work begins to find someone to repair the damage that the fire has made to that corner of the house. That was the excitement around here for the weekend. Sunday afternoon Reed and Cliff got the tractor running so he could get the seeding that had been waiting to be mowed to be chopped or round baled and wrapped. Keep purchasing all the dairy products that you need for baking, cooking or your enjoyment and don’t forget to get your produce that you need at the area markets.
