Robert Brault “There are exactly as many special occasions in life as we choose to celebrate”

The Delaware County Fair in Walton is going on all this week with many activities for everyone to enjoy: rides, games, exhibits, 4-H activities and shows, lots of cattle and other animals, machinery displays, booths for many businesses and in general organizations that have much to offer the public. Don’t forget the places that have much good food for all our taste buds. Have fun everyone and don’t forget the demolition derby on Monday and Friday evening and good luck to all who are participating and have a safe and enjoyable time, all.

Here on the Farm the fellas are trying to get some more first and second cutting hay done around the showers that we seem to be having daily. Our farmers need some dry days in a row to get some hay in the barns for winter feeding. The fellas have been able to get some wrapped bales when there is some good weather. The milk tester from Dairy One is due to come sometime this month to test the cows for milk production and other things that have to be done for paperwork for the vet and the fellas to use to keep tract of the cows needing to be bred, checked for calves that are due and for any problems that they may have with breeding. The base program for milk production for the month of August will remain at 92%. While milk production has declined seasonably, demand continues to fluctuate. Schools in the southern portion of our region will begin to come back into session as we get into late August, which will improve overall demand. Demand is expected to remain steady through the fall months. In keeping with past years’ production compared to demand looks to be trending in the right direction. On July 18 the Northeast Area Council met for a special meeting focused specifically on our base program and voted to change our existing program, effective Dec. 31, the existing base program will be terminated. Effective January 1, 2024 they will implement a new spring over spring production program to equitably allocate spring balancing costs. The stop charge and trucking costs will increase effective with August/September checks. Keep on purchasing all the dairy products that you may need and visit the town markets whenever you can - keep all our farmers in business. Have a great and healthy week everyone.
