Actor Anthony Hopkins said,“Today is the tomorrow you were so worried about yesterday... just keep in there, just keep fighting. Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid.”  The actors are on strike with the writers and this is a quote that they need to keep in mind or there will be no progress made with the strike, and the reports are that there will be consequences with much loss of peoples jobs and careers at stake.

Here on the Farm the fellas are starting to get some second cutting baled and wrapped among the rain storms and sometimes they are getting wet while trying.  The milk tester came last week and tested each cow for milk production.  They appreciate her, she comes from a distance to get this important part of farming done. The papers will come in the mail sometime this week and will be used by the fellas to show the vet the cows that need some help with breeding troubles, all the cows that are due to be pregnancy checked for the month, those that may need to be dried off that are carrying calves and will be having them soon, and somatic cell counts for each cow. These papers are very important and are used by the vet, the fellas and also the breeders that come to the farm plus the dairy consultants that help the fellas with the dairy feeding. June U.S. milk production report reflects poor performance. The U.S.D.A. milk production report shows milk production unchanged from 2022 although milk production per cow in 24 major states increased by 1 lb. per cow. Total cow numbers reported 5,000 less than last year and 16,000 below last month. The massive barn fire in Texas two months ago is reflected in the state’s production and cows. Dairy farmers top $1 billion in losses from the 2018 Farm Bill changes in Class 1 pricing system. Milk production is still at 92% and is predicted to remain there throughout the rest of the year. There are no reports of expected changes. The new Farm Bill is up for renewal this year, it is renewed every five years. Make your voice heard to your local representatives. Keep on purchasing all the dairy products you may need and also visit your local farm markets in your area. We need all the support for our local farmers. Have a great week everyone.

There are many students that have graduated from high school and college and many celebrations have been observed around the area. On Sunday, our grandson, Travis Pierce, was one of those - and his parents and family and friends celebrated with him with a party at their farm in Masonville. It was a great and sunny day and all enjoyed good food and conversation as we congratulated Travis’ accomplishment. Travis will be attending Morrisville College in the fall and we wish him the best of luck.
