MARGARETVILLE - Livia Fronckowiak, a junior at Margaretville Central School was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society at the Northern Catskills Occupational Center (NCOC) in Grand Gorge on Wednesday, April 2. Fronckowiak was nominated for the honor and presented with her stole by Cosmetology Instructor Sarah Pellizzari as staff members and administrators from the school campus and from many of the NCOC’s component school districts celebrated along with parents and students.
Kurt Holcherr, a member of the BOCES Board of Education and former member of the Margaretville Central School Board and Dr. Deborah Fox, a member of the BOCES Board who also serves on the Roxbury Central School Board of Education were among the dignitaries on hand for the induction.
To be eligible for NTHS membership, students must carry a cumulative average of 90 percent or above in their CTE program and must maintain an average of 85 percent or above at their home school districts. Additionally, they must display the honor society characteristics of honesty, skill, leadership, citizenship, responsibility and service. Students inducted must be involved in a leadership organization (example: HOSA, SkillsUSA) and must be active members in the community.
Fronckowiak, the daughter of Eric and Danielle Fronckowiak of Halcott Center, has served as the President of her class for two years, and has played varsity soccer and varsity softball at MCS since eighth grade. She has served as the captain of both the basketball and soccer teams and has also played travel basketball. Fronckowiak, also an accomplished artist has had her work published in the regional school Kites and Kings journal and shown at the Longyear Gallery. She serves on the school’s prom committee and also holds down part time jobs in the community.
Fronckowiak plans to attend college to study exercise science after she graduates in 2026. She chose to pursue both the traditional school Regents program and additionally, the NCOC Cosmetology program to add a skill set she would not have acquired at her home school. “Cosmetology is very interesting and it would provide nice side job opportunities while I’m going to college,” said Fronckowiak. “I picked the program because I enjoy doing hair and this program stood out as exceptional in my eyes as compared with the others offered.”
