Lisa Marie Haynes, 57, of Walton, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, Dec. 19, 2022, at Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton.
Born April 20, 1965 in Walton, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Shirley (Jump) Underwood.
She is survived by her husband George Haynes Jr., two sons Kenneth (Kellee) Wagner and George Haynes III; her two granddaughters that she loved relentlessly, Annabelle and Evangeline Wagner; her close nieces Tammy (Don) Phoenix, Raquel Phoenix, Michelle (Shawn) Darling and nephew Michael (Kelly) Phoenix; her mother-in-law Anna Haynes, as well as many other loving nephews and nieces and extended family.
She was predeceased by her parents Ken and Shirley, whom she loved greatly, her sisters Rose Phoenix and Kathy Bakker and her brother Larry Underwood, and her father-in-law George Haynes Sr., as well as a very special friend, Kim Zupo and her favorite kitties, Stormy and Shorty.
Lisa spent most all of her life hard at work. She started working at her father’s gas station at 12 years old pumping gas. She combined grades 11 and 12 and graduated early from Walton Central School in 1982. She worked many years at the Walton East Branch Foundry Corp. in Walton. She worked for Delaware Valley Hospital in their billing department as well as H&R Block preparing taxes in the evenings. She eventually worked for the Department of Social Services in Delhi for 23 years and made many lifelong friends. She then moved to the Social Security Administration, from which she just recently retired. She worked very hard for her family to always give them the best she was able.
Her family was everything to her. She cared deeply for her parents and in their later years spent most of her free time helping them retain their independence and have fulfilling lives. She did all in her power to always give her sons everything she could. She regularly drove to comic book shops in Oneonta and Binghamton for one, and to card game shops in Catskill for the other. She encouraged them to follow the things they love and enjoy. She was very proud of both of her children and always talked about how smart and amazing they were. Her granddaughters were the light of her life. She was so excited when each of them were born and loved having them come to her house and spend time with Grammie. She loved making gingerbread houses, carving pumpkins, coloring eggs, and playing games with them. She celebrated in their awards and their accomplishments in school and always supported them in every way she could. She also had a special place in her heart for cats. She loved their presence and caring for them. We always called her a young crazy cat lady. She has had many cats over the years and she leaves two behind at home, Kiki and Kitten.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her son George, who had become a 24/7 caregiver in recent months, especially with her broken ankle; as well as her daughter-in-law, Kellee, who has also been regularly caring for her needs.
Friends and family are invited to call Friday, Dec. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, where services will be held at 7 with Pastor Chris Bosnyak, officiating.
