Lillian Cairns

Lillian Ann Cairns, 91, of Bovina Center, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 27, 2023.

Born on Jan. 30, 1932 in Laurens, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Beatrice (Crandall) Sabedra. Ann was a graduate of Laurens Central School and Oneonta State Teachers College. 

Ann was very involved in the Bovina Center community. She was a local caterer, owning and operating Cairns Catering, and was a founding member of the Open Door, Inc. in Delhi, a non-profit for Delaware County families. She was a 4 H leader and the local Avon lady, treasurer for the Bovina Fire Company and was very active at St. James Church, especially during the annual flea market. 

Mrs. Cairns was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Leonard J. Cairns.

She is survived by three children: John (Nancy) Cairns of Saratoga Springs, Margi (Scott) Reither of Farmville, N.C. and Jeffrey (Heather) Cairns of Wallingford, Vermont; grandchildren Zachary, Michael, Morgan, Meagan and Linden, Madison (Mark) - parents of her great-granddaughter Aurora, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Lillian was the oldest of eight. Her living siblings include Patricia, Andrea and Butch; she was predeceased by Shirley, Pete, Bobby and Sandy. 

Friends and relatives are invited to call from 1 - 2 p.m. followed by a celebration of Ann’s life at 2 Saturday, March 11, at St. James Church at Lake Delaware, 55 Lake Delaware Drive, Delhi.

Contributions in Ann’s memory of may be made to the “Cairns Memorial Scholarship Fund” at St. James Church.
