STAMFORD — Headwaters Arts Center will host a Ukrainian egg-painting workshop on Saturday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering participants an opportunity to learn the intricate craft of pysanky, the centuries-old art of decorating eggs with wax and dye.
Local artist Joanne Lentner will guide attendees through the process of creating three decorated eggs, demonstrating traditional techniques that use wax resist, multiple dye baths, and a symbolic vocabulary of motifs. Unlike conventional Easter egg dyeing, pysanky is a form of “writing,” where each design conveys meaning and cultural significance.
All tools and materials will be provided, and the workshop is available with tiered equity pricing of $25, $40, or $50. Those interested can register online at roxburyartsgroup.org/workshops or email headwaters@roxburyartsgroup.org for more information.
Lentner, based in Oneonta, is a versatile artist working in watercolor, oil, pastel, glass beadmaking, basketweaving, and more. Though trained in the traditional art of pysanky, she has expanded her designs to include non-traditional colors and motifs, offering participants a chance to blend heritage and creativity.
