The Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society will present a program on eBird, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s bird-sighting database, Friday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
Birder and educator Pete Fenner will explain how to use eBird to record bird sightings and contribute to citizen-science research. The free program is open to the public, but registration is required.
Fenner will cover the differences between eBird’s website and mobile app, the benefits of documenting sightings, and the review process. He also will discuss how comments, photographs and audio recordings improve reports and how eBird works with the Merlin bird identification app.
Fenner lives in East Peoria, Illinois, and has family ties to central New York. A Colgate University graduate with a degree in biology, he is retired from Caterpillar and birds nearly every day. He is among the top eBird users in his home area and Otsego County.
Fenner has served on the Peoria Audubon board for more than 20 years and is its treasurer. He also is trustee emeritus for the Nature Conservancy of Illinois.
