Daniel Koerner, 23, raised in Stamford and now a resident of Oneonta, was unanimously elected chairman of the Otsego County Republican Committee. Koerner was Delaware County Republican Committeeman from October 2017 to December 2022. He was founder and chairman emeritus of the Young Republicans of Delaware County.

The committee’s historic vote makes Koerner the youngest chair to ever serve as the head of a county party in New York state.

The vote was held Sunday, Oct. 1, at a reorganization meeting of the county’s Republican Committee.

Koerner, who has been an active member of the New York State Young Republicans since 2016, is seen as a reflection of the party’s commitment to fostering fresh and innovative leadership.

In an address to the committee following the election, Koerner said his primary focus is bolstering the committee’s presence throughout Otsego County through a mix of traditional grassroots activism and new-era practices in the digital sphere of politics.

“We will continue to build and strengthen our party, and move together behind a meaningful purpose. I am determined to make a positive difference in our communities, and I am confident we will achieve great things for the Republican Party,” he said.

In addition to Koerner’s election, the committee voted to fill other key leadership positions including Lori Lehenbauer, first vice chair; Ronald Wheeler, second vice chair; Isaiah Gibbs, treasurer; and Jenna Utter, secretary.
