Jazz Ensemble in Stamford July 19

STAMFORD - The Friends of Music of Stamford, NY 40th Anniversary Season continues Sunday, July 19, with a 3 p.m. concert by the Stephanie Chou Jazz Ensemble featuring Stephanie Chou (voice, alto saxophone), Andy Lin (erhu, viola), Hyuna Park (piano), Matt Aronoff (bass), and Ronen Itzik (drums). Bandleader and composer Stephanie Chou blends Chinese musical influences with Western jazz and pop to create a unique and vibrant cross-cultural sound.

This event is hosted by the First Presbyterian Church at 96 Main Street, Stamford. Admission is by donation at the door; the suggested donation is $15 per person, $10 for seniors & students. The ensemble features an accomplished group of internationally recognized musicians with backgrounds spanning jazz, classical and Asian musical traditions.

Stephanie Chou is a composer, saxophonist, pianist and vocalist who blends Chinese and Western musical traditions. A Columbia University mathematics graduate with advanced studies in music composition, she has received numerous national grants and commissions and is also an educator exploring the connections between music, culture and mathematics.

Dr. Andy Lin is a Taiwanese American violist and erhu (Chinese violin) player. He is artistic director and co-founder of the New Asia Chamber Music Society and is known for performing on both Western and Eastern instruments.

Hyuna Park is an award-winning jazz pianist whose music combines New York jazz with Korean and classical influences. She won the 2018 International Women in Jazz Festival and has performed at the Kennedy Center, the United Nations and other prestigious venues.

Matt Aronoff is an acclaimed acoustic and electric bassist and a Manhattan School of Music graduate. His debut album, Morning Song, was named one of DownBeat magazine’s best albums of 2022.

Ronen Itzik is an internationally acclaimed drummer and recording artist educated at Berklee College of Music and Florida State University. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Blue Note and major jazz festivals around the world.
