DELHI - Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announces the death of an inmate at the Delaware County Jail Tuesday, Nov. 5.
A correction officer was conducting rounds when an unresponsive inmate was located in a cell. Corrections personnel immediately began conducting lifesaving measures, and emergency medical services were called. Following extensive efforts, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the inmate was pronounced dead by a Delaware County medical examiner.
As is the case with all in-custody deaths, the case was referred to the Office of the New York State Attorney General and the New York State Commission of Correction for external review. The investigation is ongoing.
