Host a Late Season Sponsored Pheasant Hunt

Posted

Extend the tradition: host a sponsored pheasant hunt and take new and underrepresented hunters “under the wing” to share the experience of late season small game hunting while teaching in-the-field skills beyond those taught in the Hunter Education Course. Applications to host sponsored pheasant hunts are accepted until January 10, 2026, and hunts can be hosted at any point during an open pheasant season. These events provide valuable opportunities for new or inexperienced hunters well after big game seasons have ended across much of the state.

Sponsored hunts are free, non-competitive events open to the public and coordinated by a group, club, individual, or organization to benefit youth, women, first-time hunters, veterans, people with disabilities, and other underrepresented groups. These outdoor experiences help build a deeper appreciation for nature and cultivate a community dedicated to conservation. The DEC provides pheasants, free of cost, for stocking ahead of each event. A valid New York State hunting license is required for all participants.

Looking to participate in a mentored hunt? Multiple mentored opportunities, including sponsored pheasant hunts, are still open for enrollment.
