HOBART - As Holy Week unfolds, the Hobart Presbyterian Church will observe Maundy Thursday with a Tenebrae service, an evening ritual defined by quiet reflection and the gradual descent into darkness.
The service, set for 7 p.m. on April 2, takes its name from the Latin word for “shadows” or “darkness” and commemorates the passion and death of Christ. It will include communion in remembrance of the Last Supper, with candles extinguished one by one until the sanctuary is left in silence.
The church, at 78 Maple Avenue, has extended an open invitation to the community. Elevator access to the sanctuary is available.
Pastor Karen Marshfield will lead both the Tenebrae service and the church’s Easter service, scheduled for Sunday, April 5 at 9:45 a.m. For more information, call 607-538-1371.
