Historic saddle to be auctioned May 27

Mcintosh Auction Service will offer at auction at the Delhi American Legion Hall, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, a historic, a western saddle with a major connection to Delaware County. 

The saddle formerly belonged  to New York State Police Captain Daniel Fox. Fox became the commander of the New York State Police Troop C in Sidney in 1921, and formed a roving militia of 50 pinto horses, and the “Spotted Horse Division” became know statewide, as well as regionally.

The saddle being sold has silver inlay, and was made by Keyston Brothers, San Francisco. The saddle was documented in the Bob Wyer book “Picturing The Catskills” in a photograph taken at a scout camporee in 1938. The original, matching bridle will be sold with the saddle. 

Auctioneer Chuck Mcintosh commented, “It is an honor to sell an historic piece such as this, especially when it has a direct connection to the history of our county.”

The saddle will be sold Saturday, May 27, during the second session of the auction which begins at 11 a.m. The saddle and other items to be auctioned, will be available for preview Friday afternoon, May 26, Saturday morning and during the actual auction.
