Go Fishing!

Posted

New York State is home to world class fishing for a wide variety of sportfish within more than 7,500 lakes and ponds, 70,000 miles of rivers and streams, and hundreds of miles of coastline. You can go fishing for Smallmouth Bass on Lake Erie, Brook Trout on an Adirondack pond, Pacific Salmon on Lake Ontario, Striped Bass on the Hudson River, Brown Trout on the Beaver Kill, and so much more.

Use the HuntFishNY app Tackle Box tool to find waterbody specific information on stocking, boat launches, fishing regulations, and more.

You need a fishing license if you are 16 years and older and fishing for:

• Freshwater fish species by angling, spearing, hooking, longbow, and tip-ups.

• Frog species by spearing, catching with the hands or by use of a club or hook.

• Freshwater baitfish for personal use.

If you’re taking a 12–18-year-old fishing this summer, count it as an activity towards the Get Offline, Get Outside Challenge.
