Adventuring in a group can bring added excitement to any outdoor activity. If you’re hiking, wildlife watching, or otherwise getting outside this spring, going with a group can add an additional layer of safety and provide lasting memories. We’re passing along a few tips for getting outside with groups this spring:
• Don’t separate; move at a pace that works for all group members: We all have different experience levels and desired outcomes when we spend time outdoors. To avoid separating from others in the group, we recommend setting a pace that works for everyone. If you have group members that want to turn around or take different trails, make sure that plans are communicated thoroughly to ensure everyone knows the expectations.
• Consider other users’ experiences: Traveling in groups can be fun. While it might lead to great conversations and laughter on the trail, keep in mind that others might be seeking a different experience. If you’re in an area where others are enjoying the trails, keep in mind that louder noises might be disruptive to hunters, birders, wildlife watchers, and wildlife.
We always recommend traveling in groups. However, if you are heading outside solo, make sure you leave a detailed itinerary of your planned adventure with a family member or friend. Knowing your plans, and of a time they should expect to hear from you, can be critical.
