Born on May 9, 1926, in Passaic, New Jersey, to Gertrude and Fred Glinkin, he was raised in Clifton, New Jersey, where he enjoyed playing football for Clifton High School.

Before graduation, at the age of 17 Fred made the honorable decision to enlist in the U.S. Navy to serve in World War II. After basic training, he proudly served as a Quartermaster on the U.S.S. Clarence L. Evans (D.E. 113), escorting convoys across the North Atlantic.

In this role, Fred was elected Union Shop Steward, where he negotiated contracts and addressed grievances with Marcal. He took great pride in supporting his union members and was especially honored to be recognized for driving over one million miles without an accident. Fred retired from Marcal at the age of 63.

In retirement, Fred relocated to Hamden to enjoy the outdoors and the tranquility of the countryside. He spent his time hunting, walking, observing wildlife, and appreciating the beautiful scenery around his home. Fred also enjoyed traveling across the country by car and taking cruise vacations.
