Franklin Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic June 1

Posted

Residents across Delaware County will have an opportunity to protect their pets - and themselves - during a free rabies vaccination clinic scheduled for Monday, June 1, at the Franklin Fire Hall.

The clinic, hosted from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the fire hall, 351 Main St. in Franklin, will provide rabies vaccinations for dogs, cats and ferrets.

County health officials are encouraging pet owners to pre-register ahead of time. Under New York law, all dogs and cats are required to be vaccinated against rabies. Pets may receive their first rabies vaccination at 3 months old. Owners are asked to bring prior vaccination records to determine whether pets qualify for a three-year vaccine coverage period.

Dogs must be leashed and under control, while cats and ferrets should be transported in carriers. Officials also reminded attendees that pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their animals at the site.

The clinic is being coordinated through the Delaware County Public Health, which noted that veterinarians will only be available during the advertised clinic hours.

For questions or help with pre-registration, residents may contact the health department at 607-832-5200.
