Franklin was featured in the New York Times last week in a story about how New York state budget cuts are impacting small rural school districts. If you don’t have access to the Times and want to read the story, it is available online at the Franklin Free Library. Governor Hochul’s budget has proposed changes in how funds are allocated which means Franklin Central School will lose $1.3 million in state funding. There is a petition to stop these cuts - now would be a good time to sign it to show your support for our school. More information is available here.

First Thursday Community Dinner with homemade soups and desserts buffet, Thursday March 7 from 5-7 p.m., at St Paul’s Church, 307 Main Street. The monthly dinners support the ongoing interior renovation project - progress is being made! A freewill offering will be accepted for this “all you want to eat” dinner.  This monthly dinner is in its 14th year - all are invited and welcome to join friends and neighbors for dinner and social time on the first Thursday of each month; dine-in or takeout. 

Franklin Central School’s Music in Our Schools Month concert Thursday, March 7 at 6 p.m. in the FCS auditorium. Senior band, chorus and jazz band, as well as the elementary chorus and band will perform.

Franklin Planning Board meets Thursday March 7 th at 7:30 p.m., Franklin Town Garage, 12480 County Hwy. 21.

Greater Franklin Food Pantry, 574 Main Street, will be open Friday, March 8 from 2-4 p.m. or by appointment. Pantry organizers are looking for volunteers. Contact them here.

It’s choo choo time! At the Franklin Library, 334 Main Street, Saturday, March 9 th at 2 p.m. Help set up wooden trains and enjoy a great time for young and old to play with and learn about trains. Game night with all sorts of board games will be at the library Wednesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. All are welcome.

Franklin Farmers Market will host the March Winter Market Sunday, March 10 , 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Franklin Community and Railroad Museum, 572 Main Street. At least a dozen vendors are scheduled to be there. The market is an excellent place to shop local.

Check out the March calendar for the Franklin Central School District sports program. The board of education will meet Thursday, March 14 th at 6 p.m. at Franklin Central School, 26 Institute Street.

Coming up: be on the lookout for leprechauns collecting nonperishable, unexpired food items Tuesday, March 19 around 5 p.m. Beta Sigma Phi Sorority’s local chapter Xi Delta Iota sisters will be going door-to-door in the village to collect items to stock the shelves at the Greater Franklin Food Pantry. You can’t miss them; they’ll be the ladies on a scavenger hunt decked out in green.
