DELHI – Friday's Delaware County Department of Public Health Services' daily virus press update announced a fourth death in the county on Thursday.

“This person had been hospitalized with the disease,” the release said.

Two additional positive cases have been reported by the state, bringing the local total so far to 61. Eight of those lab reports were transferred to other counties where the patients involved are residing.

Four people are still hospitalized and 19 have recovered. 72 people are in mandatory quarantine, a substantially higher number than neighboring Otsego County.

“Everyone should limit close contact with individuals outside your household in indoor and outdoor spaces,” the release advised. “Since people can spread the virus before they know they are sick, it is important to stay away from others when possible, even if you have no symptoms.”

Otsego County reported 50 confirmed cases on Friday, four of them hospitalized, with four deaths, and 27 people in mandatory quarantine.

The state's mandatory mask order for anyone in public spaces who cannot maintain a six foot social distance goes into effect Friday night at 8 PM. Local governments have been told to enforce the executive order.
