The voices of a generation will begin to echo through time on Sunday, May 25, , as the Fleischmanns Oral History Project holds its first-ever recording session at the Greater Fleischmanns Museum of Memories, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., during the annual Fleischmanns First Street Fair.
Launched by childhood friends Sarah Stitham and Linda Lukow Weinberg, the initiative seeks to capture the lived experiences of those who grew up in this storied Catskill Mountain village. Residents and former locals are invited to share recollections of life in Fleischmanns—from swimming in Lake Switzerland, marching in Halloween parades, shopping at Lipmann’s Market, to dancing at the Sugar Bowl or growing up in family-run boarding houses.
The idea for the project was born last fall, when Stitham and Weinberg reunited after 65 years. Their deep conversation, filled with memories of an unconventional youth, sparked a desire to collect and preserve the rich oral history of the village for future generations.
The session will be hosted by the Greater Fleischmanns Museum of Memories with professional audio support generously provided by Brett Barry of Silver Hollow Audio.
Organizers encourage anyone with stories about growing up in Fleischmanns to attend and participate.
