DENVER -A chance meeting at a New York City house party nearly a decade ago has evolved into one of the most acclaimed cross-cultural collaborations in contemporary music.
On Friday, July 31, at 7:30 p.m., the Roxbury Arts Group will present Sam Reider and Jorge Glem at the Old School Baptist Church in Denver, where the Grammy-nominated duo will perform an energetic blend of Venezuelan folk traditions, American roots music and jazz.
The concert will showcase the duo’s Grammy-nominated fusion of Venezuelan and American music, blending the sounds of Jorge Glem’s virtuoso cuatro with Sam Reider’s accordion and piano. Since forming in 2016, they have performed at Lincoln Center, SFJAZZ and NPR’s Tiny Desk, earning a 2023 Latin Grammy nomination for Brooklyn-Cumaná. Glem is a Latin Grammy-winning cuatro master who has performed with major orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and New York Philharmonic, while Reider is an acclaimed accordionist, pianist and composer whose work spans jazz, folk and bluegrass, with his 2022 album Petrichor recognized by DownBeat as one of the year’s best recordings.
Together, Reider and Glem have built a musical partnership that celebrates the traditions of both Venezuela and the United States while creating a sound uniquely their own.
The concert will be held at the Old School Baptist Church, located at the intersection of County Road 36 and Cartwright Road in Denver.
Tickets are $12, $21 and $28, with free admission for children 16 and younger.
