It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald L. Tompkins, who left us Oct. 27, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born Sept. 14, 1942, to his parents John Tompkins and Isabelle Croop.
Donald devoted 25 years of his life to dairy farming. He also took great pride in serving the community as a bus driver for Downsville Central School, ensuring that local children made it to school safely every day. In addition to his time in farming and education, Donald worked with S.J. Bailey and Sons Co. and C.H.I. in Corbett, before moving on to maintenance at Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals.
Donald cherished moments spent hunting and fishing - the tranquility of nature always brought him joy. He had a passion for dancing and found great joy in bowling, often sharing laughter with friends and family. Donald also had a special connection with quarter horses, enjoying every moment spent raising them. Donald often reminded us with his favorite saying, “Can’t fix stupid,” leaving behind a legacy of humor.
Donald is survived by his family, his wife of 63 years Dona Tompkins, his sons Michael (Patty) Tompkins Sr., John Tompkins, and Rodney (Edna) Tompkins; his siblings Ted, Glenn, and Gordon, his grandchildren Michael Jr., Dylan, Ethan, Adam, Natasha, Nicholas, and Hunter; his great-granddaughters Mackenzie, Lily and Meadow, and special friends Sharon Edwards and Hyrum Rudolph.
Donald was predeceased by his parents John and Isabelle Tompkins, siblings Wesley, Richard, Charlotte and Irene, and his daughter-in-law Dina Tompkins.
