Do not feed or attempt to care for wildlife

Posted

Whether it’s deer in the woods, seals on the beach, ducks in a pond, or a dolphin in the bay – animals are wild creatures that should never be fed supplemental food provided by humans. Though the intention may be to help the animal, feeding wildlife interferes with a natural, healthy balance between wildlife populations and their habitat.

Increased human interaction can cause further stress to the animal and may weaken their condition and likelihood of survival.

If you believe a land mammal, bird, amphibian, or reptile is injured, visit dec.ny.gov/animals/83977.html for a list of licensed wildlife rehabilitators.
