Deposit under boil water advisory

DEPOSIT - Due to an accidental break in a water main caused by a private contractor who was installing a drainage system at the intersection of Second and Church streets in Deposit, the village is under a “boil water” advisory until further notice.

The incident occurred June 14 at approximately 10:15 a.m., and water has been shut off to approximately five residences on Second Street, though all water district users are advised to boil water until further notice.

According to Deposit Department of Public Works Superintendent Steve Evans, the private contractor has purchased the parts for the repair and it is hoped that the boil water advisory will be lifted on June 15.

Though it was an isolated incident, Evans said, the water district was not able to maintain positive pressure and is regulated by the New York State Department of Health with regard to water sample testing under the conditions. Two water samples must “pass” DOH testing before the advisory is lifted, Evans said.

Water district users are advised to boil tap water for one minute and cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food until the advisory is lifted.

Deposit water district users can remain updated on the advisory by visiting the village of Deposit’s Facebook page.
